Our Story

Our story starts long before Civitas HRC showed up on the scene. It all started back when the country went on lockdown in March of 2020. Our children were forced to learn from home and it was then that we realized what a disaster public school had become in the state of California. It wasn’t until November 2021 that we were fed up and met to do something about it. At that meeting we realized people wanted to homeschool, but they felt they would be all alone in the journey. Despite what we thought, many people wanted to teach their own children, they didn’t want co-ops. They were afraid their children wouldn’t have other children to play with, classes to help support where they might feel less than worthy, and a place where others were in the same place in life that they were. They were wanting COMMUNITY. Families wanted to jump out of public school and into homeschool, but they needed something there to catch them, something that made them feel included, not secluded. That is when we saw the need for the homeschool resource center. We thought we would start small and start with sports. Our local communities already have pretty robust rec sports for the elementary school aged children, but not much for middle school and absolutely nothing other than club teams for high school students. It is a major trend that homeschoolers jump back to public school just to play sports in their high school years. We shouldn’t be sacrificing what we know is right for our children just to play sports. So, we decided to start our own! That was the birth of the North County H.E.A.T. (Home Educated Athletic Team). Our first season we had a boys flag football team and a girls volleyball team. At this point, the CHRC was still a dream and on the back burner, but we needed to make sure this was a real need first. And it was! Everywhere we went, people talked about coming together to do more. As our season moved forward, we ran into a problem with insurance. Apparently, you need to have a business, child protection training, and so much more in place for a company to insure a team like ours. Therefore, we decided it was time to move the birth of the center forward. So in the Spring of 2023 we started getting ready to put our first Fall class schedule together.

Statement of Faith

  • We believe the Bible is the one, and only, inspired, infallible and authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21)

  • We believe God has existed from all eternity in three Persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 3:16-17; 2 Corinthians 12:14)

  • We believe Jesus was God and came in human flesh, being fully God and fully man, except without sin. (John 1:1-2, 14)

  • We believe all people are in violation of God’s righteous requirements and His holy character both by nature and act. (Romans 3:23, 5:12)

  • We believe that the central purpose of the coming of Jesus Christ was to pay the penalty for man’s sin through His substitutionary death on the cross, the successful accomplishment of which was attested to by His subsequent bodily resurrection. (1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Acts 1:3)

  • We believe salvation is offered as a gift, free to the sinner. This gift must be responded to in individual faith, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever, but in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ alone. (Acts 13:38-39; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9)
